ALIEN INVASION OR TERMINAL STUPIDITY?

Global warming is a fact. The ice at the poles and the glaciers is fast melting and the earth is warming at an alarming rate. And if we don't do something about it, and soon, we will no longer be able to live upon Mother Earth. (See "Earth Watch" in this issue of The Caldron.)

I read a science fiction story recently in which aliens from a dying planet had taken possession of the minds of various Bush-like humans in positions of power here upon Earth. Their race had to leave their doomed planet soon, and they wanted to colonize Earth. But they had one small problem. Their natural atmosphere was a mixture of what we would call toxins and pollutants--especially high in nitrogen and carbon dioxide. Their solution to this problem was to implement policies that would encourage global warming so that our planet would all too soon become suitable for them to colonize. Unfortunately, none of us humans would be able to live in this new and poisonous atmosphere.

I keep hearing folks say how they can't understand Bush and his obviously destructive policies. "What planet does the Bush crew live on?" "Won't they have to live here too?" Maybe they will, but maybe not as it is now but instead as it will be if they have their way. Watching Bush and his minions trying to destroy our planet with their malicious and power tripping policies of waging war and encouraging global warming, I keep coming back to this fantastic and unlikely scenario--that they really are all aliens intent upon transforming our wonderful planet into one that their truly alien race could live upon.

Of course Bush and his cohorts could just be really stupid, terminally stupid. I've heard that too, many folks saying that the various members of the Bush gang just aren't smart enough to understand the consequences of what they are doing. However, no matter what is really going on, we certainly shouldn't play "follow the leader," when our leaders are either aliens from another planet bent upon our complete destruction or else humans too stupid to understand what they are doing to our collective home, our Mother Earth.
